About The President
Dr. Joseph Okyere-Konduah (popularly known on campus as Joe Konduah) enrolled at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as a Pre-Architecture student from 1964 to 1966. He continued to pursue the Diploma Course in Physical Planning for the next three years, graduating in 1969 with Distinction. During his five years sojourn on campus, he got involved in a number of students activities. He was Republic Hall’s World University Service (WUS) representative, and by virtue of this position became a member of the SRC. In 1968, he was elected the General Secretary of World University Service (KNUST Chapter). Through his association with WUS he had the opportunity to represent Ghana University students at seminars and conferences in Europe.

It was at one of these external encounters/interactions with other foreign students that he learned more about the importance of the Alumni Association organization and their relentless support for their Universities.

Armed with this important information, he waited for an opportune time to sell the idea to our University in general and the alumni population in particular. As fortune would have it, he returned to campus for the second time in August 1973 to pursue a degree program in Urban Planning. His four years of off-campus life did not dampen his earlier desire to re-engage the Alumni population in the affairs of the University. He was elected the SRC Secretary in the 1973-1974 Academic year, and subsequently as the President of SRC in the following year.

As SRC President, Dr. Konduah embraced the opportunity to pursue his dreams. He took advantage of his position and engaged both the Vice Chancellor (the Late Dr. E. Bamfo-Kwakye) and the Registrar for Students Affairs (Mr. Barterls), regarding the then dormant Alumni Association. As President, he devoted his attention to both his academic program and the students’ welfare.

As fate would have it, he graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) in his class in June 1976. In July he was appointed a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Architecture (Department of Planning), but the Registrar, recognizing Okyere-Konduah’s extra-curricular potentials, pulled him off from teaching to the Administration, and asked him to REVITALIZE the Alumni Association.

During the months following his appointment, he toured the country - from Bolgatanga to Cape Coast – contacted as many alumni as he could. He helped them to re-organize their regional chapters, and have these chapters inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor or by the Registrar for Students Affairs in 1976. In the summer of 1976, Joe organized the first National Re-Union of the Reformed Alumni Association at the Unity Hall where The National Association was formally inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor. The event was attended by a large number of alumni.

After successfully “paying his dues”, KNUST offered him a Scholarship in August 1977 to pursue a PhD Urban Planning degree study at University of Wisconsin in United States. Dr. Joseph Okyere-Konduah currently works with the Department of Transportation (Madison) in the state of Wisconsin. He can be reached through the following communication media:

A Message From The President
Endowment Fund
Dear Alumni Members - I strongly encourage you to contribute towards the Endowment Fund. We need a solid Financial-Based structure for the Association so that we can continue supporting and promoting the activities of our Association. Also note that before we can fruitfully support our Alma Mater and be in a position to participate and/or contribute to decisions/policies for the welfare of the students on campus, faculty and the University as a whole, we have to be fully financially equiped/prepared.
